Minors outside of the U.S. cannot access the Modern Health app. All communications, paperwork exchange, and scheduling will occur via email. Sessions need to be hosted on a secure external platform like doxy.me. The provider must also log sessions on the Dashboard for invoicing and tracking purposes. Messaging minors via the app is disabled for legal compliance with COPPA.
Minors under 18 and outside of the United States cannot access the Modern Health app. If covered, parents request care for their minor, then the Care Team introduces the provider to the parent/guardian by email. All communications, paperwork exchange, and scheduling occur via email. Sessions are hosted on a secure external platform like doxy.me. The provider must also log sessions on the Dashboard for invoicing and tracking purposes. Messaging minors via the app is disabled for legal compliance with COPPA.
First, it's important to make it clear that minors do not have access to the Modern Health app. This means that every child or adolescent under 18 years of age isn't able to login to the Modern Health app.
If there is coverage for minor dependents, then a parent will put in a request for their minor dependent to get connected with care. All matches with minors are done via email, and the Care Team at Modern Health will introduce you (provider) to the main benefit holder (parent/guardian) over email.
Since minors don't have access to the Modern Health app, you will need to communicate with the parent/guardian via email to introduce yourself, exchange the necessary paperwork and coordinate scheduling.
You will schedule sessions outside of our platform, and host telehealth sessions on your preferred secure video platform, that is not Zoom embedded in our platform. (Doxy.me is our recommendation for free HIPAA-compliant software). However, you must ensure that sessions scheduled outside also get reflected (scheduled) on the Dashboard.
Yes! When you get matched with a minor dependent you will see the client show up on the Clients list within your Dashboard, but you'll notice that Messages will be grayed out, you will not be able to message via the app directly to the child/adolescent client due to COPPA laws.
The short answer is: for invoicing purposes, so you don't get blocked from submitting the invoice for sessions you complete with them.
You must ensure that all sessions scheduled with the minor outside of the Dashboard, are also scheduled on the Dashboard for invoicing purposes. Scheduling in advance on the Dashboard will also ensure you keep tabs on whether they have remaining sessions to be used, or if they've lost eligibility for the benefit. In both scenarios you won't be successful in scheduling sessions with them.
After the session has concluded, you can invoice for it as you normally would using the "Submit Invoice" button on the Sessions page.
Note: since the minor does not have access to the Modern Health app, they will not receive automated email notifications of the booking you make on our Dashboard, nor will they receive the link to our Zoom. Please be sure to share the correct telehealth link with your minor dependent clients prior to each scheduled session.
No, you must never schedule a session for a third party under another member's account, even if they are relatives. Each Modern Health member, including minors, will have their own individual account if they are eligible for the benefit.
If a parent/guardian would like to get their minor dependent connected to care, but the minor doesn't have their own account created please advise that the parent/guardian contact Member Support via help@joinmodernhealth.com. Our Member Support team will be available to assist them in verifying their minor's eligibility for the Modern Health benefit, and in getting the minor's account created.
